Overview

The Refining Turnaround Group (RTG) Team Lead will report directly to the RTG Manager. This position will lead a matrix organization of RTG personnel working closely with the 14 refinery TAR teams. The RTG Team provides overall turnaround planning, budgeting, estimating, scheduling, and execution guidance. The RTG Team Lead will also be responsible for leading TAR assessments for upcoming events to determine overall readiness. This position requires strong technical expertise as well as leadership, interpersonal, communication, mentoring, and organizational skills. 

 

Geographic flexibility is required, allowing this position to be performed out of any Marathon Refining location, except for those in California or Alaska

 

Up to 75% travel is required but may fluctuate at times to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
 

Essential Functions

•    Supervises an RTG Corporate TAR Team that helps manage and optimize the refinery wide 10-year TAR schedule.
•    Ensures the MPC’s TAR Standard/Best Practice is followed and implemented to the fullest when planning, scheduling, and executing refinery TARs.
•    Provides mentorship to the site TAR teams.
•    Enforces the Plan of the Plan (POP) development and holds refinery TAR teams accountable to meeting required due dates.
•    Ensures detailed worklists for scheduled TARs are developed and frozen prior to worklist freeze dates.
•    Leads internal assessments at the refinery locations to determine overall TAR readiness for upcoming TARs.
•    Issues recommendations to improve overall preparation efforts and readiness for upcoming TARs.
•    Assists in the overall development of TAR contracting strategies at responsible refineries.
•    Oversees the planning process and monitors progress to ensure planning deadlines are met. Ensures critical path scope is optimized and executed in the most efficient manner.
•    Assists with the development of the TAR event budgets for TAR, MM, ER, and CAP expense classes and performs final review prior to corporate budget submittal.
•    Reviews refinery check and control estimates for TARs.
•    Assists with contractor job order optimization and labor/equipment rate reviews. Helps develop corporate rates and volume-based discounts when applicable. 
•    Ensures lessons learned are implemented at refinery locations to continue improving overall TAR performance. 
 

Minimum (Required) Qualifications

•    High School Diploma/GED from an accredited institution (Completed bachelor's degree in Engineering/Construction Management is strongly preferred).
•    Minimum of 3 years of Refining or Petrochemical industry experience.
•    Must be authorized to work in the US without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
•    A valid driver’s license is required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

•    Completed bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited institution.
•    8-10 years of turnaround/construction planning and execution &/or engineering/reliability experience.
•    Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access.
•    Experience with Primavera (P6).
