The Crude Oil Supply & Logistics/Light Products Supply & Logistics (COSL/LPSL) organization is responsible for supply optimization planning and scheduling the movements of crude oil, feedstock’s, biofuels and light products (gasoline, diesel, heating oil, jet fuel) between various components of Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) including refining, marketing, pipeline, rail, marine, and terminals. They must efficiently supply these products from MPC refineries and other sources to the ultimate sales point (terminals or major trading hubs) to ensure a continuous supply of products to our customers. To aid them in their work duties, schedulers and infrastructure development analysts will learn to use state of the art software tools considered to be 'Best In Class' for the oil industry as well as third-party logistics systems.



Responsible for scheduling the delivery of crude oil, feedstock’s, biofuels and light products by pipeline or waterborne transportation to third party and company locations to meet customer’s demand (sales forecast). The scheduler will coordinate pipeline, barge and/or tanker movements for appropriate timing, batch size and sequence of product shipments in order to optimize the supply of the available products from refineries and terminals, while also minimizing transportation costs and ensuring quality. They will monitor inventories at terminals and refineries on a daily basis and adjust shipping schedules to avoid shortages and the use of excess working capital. Schedulers will develop improved scheduling methods to efficiently utilize company resources, optimize inventory levels, and minimize transportation costs as well as coordinate the communications between terminals, Marketing, Exchange and Product Quality regarding any inventory or operational issue.


Infrastructure Development Analyst:

Utilizes state of the art software and modeling tools to determine transportation cost savings associated with proposed infrastructure projects and business opportunities. Interns work closely with analysts and schedulers and collaborate across departments to ensure optimal supply solutions are reached and transportation costs are minimized. They manage large databases of historical inventory data as well as perform inventory turn analyses and calculate demand growth potential for terminals. Interns will be responsible for multiple strategic projects that create value and reduce operating costs for Marathon, providing the opportunity for exposure to various parts of our business.


Commercial Analyst:

Provide market intelligence to support commercial activity while maintaining operational support functions. The intern would transform the way in which the organization uses data to go to market. Interns work closely with commodity traders and collaborate across departments to ensure optimal market solutions are reached. The intern would leverage data and analytical tools to provide market intelligence to the traders and managers. Interns will be responsible for multiple strategic projects that create value for Marathon, providing the opportunity for exposure to various parts of our business.


Industrial Engineer

Design, develop, and enhance models to optimize transportation costs and movements of light products. Utilize software and self-service analytics tools. Interns/co-ops will work closely with senior engineers to develop new solutions and improve exisiting models. 



  • Desired majors are as follows: Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering or other related disciplines.
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA required
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Positions are available spring, summer, and fall semesters.
  • Military experience a plus
