Responsibilities:

The Asphalt Technologist Intern/Co-op selected will have the following experiences and job responsibilities. This position will play an integral role in Marathon Petroleum developing competitive advantage through asphalt and heavy oil product optimization, research, sales support, manufacturing improvements, quality control, and economic analysis and customer satisfaction. The potential areas for an intern/co-op to work while in Asphalt Technology include:
 

  • The intern/co-op will lead a project to improve, develop or evaluate a new product or process.
  • Assigned a mentor through the intern/co-op’s term with MPC.
  • Gain exposure to field experience with customers and/or business partners.
  • Developing and maintaining expertise in various asphalt products and binder types, formulations, testing procedures, applications and use, modification techniques, rheological characteristics, chemistry and performance.
  • The intern/co-op will conduct coordinate and/or manage analytical work including asphalt binder/emulsion formulations and testing.
  • Participate in the asphalt and heavy oil product sales effort.
  • Conduct product development and research studies for new products and manufacturing techniques.
  • Collaborate on various asphalt and heavy oil products with internal customers in Marketing, Refining, TT&R and Marketing & Transportation Engineering (M&TE).
  • Utilize technology, market trends and internal/external business relationships to optimize asphalt value throughout the production, transportation, storage and marketing processes including the development of capital projects.
     

Qualifications:

  • Desired major: Civil Engineering
  • Asphalt experience is a benefit, but not required
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA required
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United State on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • A valid driver’s license is required as travel is a part of this role
  • Military experience is a plus
  • Positions are available: SUMMER ONLY
     

Potential Locations:

  • Findlay, OH or at our lab in North Bend, OH (near Cincinnati)
