Position Summary

The Agile Coach will coach, mentor, and guide the IT organization and develop Agile principles and ways of working to incrementally deliver solutions to specific department challenges.  This role will analyze the organization’s existing work and value delivery mechanisms and implement improvements to help streamline processes and create efficiencies.  The Agile Coach will play an integral role in the long-term strategy of the entire IT function, helping our teams deliver better products, information, and technology in a faster, more efficient manner.

 

This position is a part of a job family with multiple levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate the strategy and solutioning; including discovery/assessments and recommendations.
  • Effectively communicate agile principles, scrum practices, and overall operating model across the organization.
  • Keep an objective perspective on issues and troubleshoots by applying agile principles.
  • Champion the use of metrics and other objective measures across teams.
  • Conduct periodic program health assessments and establish growth and coaching plans.
  • Educate and coach others in agile practices to ensure adoption of best practices from top-down.
  • Facilitate learning and development through individual and team coaching.
  • Undertake daily follow-ups with individual team members to ensure projects are on track and goals are being met.
  • Support teams in determining resource allocation to maintain agile practices and ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Hold stand-up meetings with cross-functional teams to review project status.
  • Understand, support, and lead the transformation from project to product management concepts.
  • Understand, support, and serve as IT program and portfolio lead as necessary.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related fields.
  • Seven or more years of experience as an Agile Coach.
  • Successful in implementing agile techniques in varied environments.
  • Experience in coaching, guiding, and supporting executives, managers, product owners, Scrum Masters, and others.
  • Familiarity with Scrum and Scaled Agile Frameworks (SAFe).

  • Strong people leadership skills; ability to manage by influence and guide key technology architecture and design decisions in close collaboration with IT leaders and business partners.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.
  • Practical in approach to decision making and problem-solving that is principle-based.
  • Consultation and project management skills.
  • Exposure and understanding of existing and new and emerging technologies.
  • Solid understanding of Scrum and Kanban.
  • Applied knowledge of agile software development.
