Overview

The position will be based out of Marathon Petroleum’s Galveston Bay Refinery in Texas City, TX. The role entails leading and advancing Project Controls principles and techniques while supporting a portfolio of small area team projects ranging from $50M-$5MM.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Participate in development of project execution plans, schedules and cost control documentation, and maintaining project metrics throughout the duration of the project.
  • Apply cost control and other analytical techniques to quantify financial performance and projections.
  • Assembles all cost elements (WBS/CBS) involved in the defined scope of a project. 
  • Provide project controls expertise relating to the integration, controls and management of projects; including project planning and scheduling, manpower planning, cost control and risk management.
  • Apply project controls methods and procedures for each project phase from Conceptual through Implementation (including Close-Out and Commissioning)
  • Apply cost control and other analytical techniques to quantify financial performance and forecast projections via EVM (Earned Value Methodology)
  • Provide thorough project controls, an accountability/audit trail of major project decisions, to minimize company commercial risk.
  • Develop customized project management systems, applications and tools, as required, to meet specific project needs.
  • Provide project controls input for contractor selection, (i.e. pre-qualification assessment, bid inquiry development, bid evaluation and contract award recommendations).
  • Responsible for change management & contingency control
  • Develop &/or analyze reports to depict current project status and direction to help achieve project goals.
  • Interface with member of client project teams including project managers, construction, and accounting departments
  • Monitor and report on contractor progress and performance

Minimum requirements

  • Degree: Bachelors or Technical with related industry experience
  • Major Discipline: Construction Management, Engineering, Accounting, Business or related discipline
  • Computer Proficiencies: Ideal candidate would possess some skills and knowledge of the following systems: 1) SAP 2) SAP Business Intelligence 3) EcoSys EPC 4) Microsoft Office expertise (Excel/Access preferred)
