C&I Specialist

 

Marathon Pipe Line LLC has an opportunity for a Controls & Instrumentation Specialist to support its field controls system. The field controls systems are used to monitor and control MPL's pipeline systems.  They provide the infrastructure to compile instrumentation data and to interface with the Findlay SCADA System. Responsibilities include understanding in detail MPL’s controls system communications and instrumentation topology, programming, layout and configuration of PLC's, HMI's, Flow Computers, and other process devices. Provide support to Electrical & Instrumentation technicians and managing contract programmers. Interact with SCADA Support personnel, M&R, Measurements, Area Operations, and other business unit groups such as M&TE, TT&R, and Refining. Travel time is required and is estimated at 25-40%.

Responsibilities: 

1.

Develop and approve the design of field controls systems by creating or approving; Process & Instrumentation Diagram naming schemes for station instrumentation, material orders for C&I hardware, communications topology, and the SCADA and local Operator Interface register layout.

2.

Provide oversight of programming on field controls systems by; supporting Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) technicians or contract programmers, developing programming, and archiving and maintaining data files for control instrumentation.

3.

Provide direct support or oversight of commissioning for field control systems by; maintaining local controls and SCADA, and developing C&I Change Notification worksheet for all field control system programming changes.

4.

Provide direct support or oversight of commissioning for field control systems by; assisting in the development of the commissioning/de-commissioning plan, and identifying Operations & Maintenance / Facilities handbook modifications.

5.

Provide technical support for MPL concerning control systems by: providing advanced technical troubleshooting assistance to E&I technicians, performing or providing oversight for training of E&I technicians, being on call to assist in the handling of field control problems, and maintaining an inventory listing of spare parts.

6.

Support develop and maintain the C&I program by; participating in the development of the C&I budget, developing and maintaining the 10 year control system plan, and executing C&I program initiatives.

7.

Development and maintenance of C&I standards that insure consistency in processes.

8.

Evaluation of new hardware and technology that can be applied to the control system process.

 

 

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree or five years’ experience preferred.  Experience in pipeline operations, and technical support is desirable. Basic knowledge of PLC's, field instrumentation, and electrical is desirable.
