Job Summary

 

The Emergency Response Technician will be a key leadership role in planning, organizing, coordinating and executing the operations of the St. Paul Park Refinery’s Emergency Response Team and Preparedness Program. The position will include responsibility for maintaining emergency planning and response programs.  These roles will also be involved in conducting various training for the Emergency Response Team. The successful candidate will exercise judgment and action in carrying out assignments in accordance with company policies, plans and objectives. As a Firefighter, the selected candidate will be required to demonstrate proven skills as an outstanding leader, communicator and coach with extensive experience in progressively more responsible roles in Fire and Rescue Services.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Act as an Emergency Responder:
    • Respnds to and participates in emergency responses in the refinery which could include medical emergencies, fires, hazardous material incidents, rescue, and oil spill responses.
    • Prvides and/or coordinates the training for medical emergencies, fires, hazardous material incidents, rescue, and oil spill responses.
  • Supports the maintenance of the Refinery fire protection equipment:
    • Helps facilitate testing and maintenance f fixed fire detection and suppression systems and all emergency mobile apparatus and equipment.
    • Cordinates testing and maintenance of the Refinery firewater system.
    • Facilitates the maintenance and annual testing f the fixed fire detectin and suppression systems as recommended by the manufacturer.
    • Cordinates the use of the firewater system.
  • Supports and maintains emergency plans:
    • Prvides support, updates and helps maintain Emergency Response Plans.
  • Conducts and or participates in Emergency Response and Emergency Planning Training and Drills:
    • Helps cordinates plans and conducts drills with local Fire Departments and other agencies.
    • Prvides necessary industrial fire training and maintains relations with local Fire Departments, employees and all other necessary personnel.
  • Supports and coordinates the Refinery Fire Water System:
    • Keeps infrmed of current fire regulations, trends and technical advances in fire control and training.
    • Cordinates plans to maintain the integrity and reliability of the firewater system and associated equipment.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • 2-5 years of experience as a Firefighter in an industrial setting or municipal department
  • Highly developed verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
  • Must pass physical agility test and all medical requirements (physical, SCBA and confined space entry) necessary for the position
  • Must be able to qualify for a TWIC card

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience in oil refining, process industry or related work experience
  • Experience with leading training programs and/or developing and implementing training plans
