Summary

Conduct day-to-day Marine Assurance vetting vessels, marine terminals, marine service providers, and vessel technical operators. Marathon vets approximately 1,400 tankers, barges, tugs and bulk carriers annually. The successful candidate will be part of the marine team working collaboratively with operations, commercial, external customers and vendors.

 

Responsibilities

•    Assess marine vessels to the company standard and recommend for approval or rejection
•    Conduct ship and barge verifications against published Oil Company International Marine Forum (OCIMF) Tanker Management Self-Assessment (TMSA) completed by vessel technical operators
•    Collect, review and update information on domestic and international ports/terminal/berths and Ship to Ship (STS) transfer positions
•    Assist refining and marine terminal personnel with completion of OCIMF Marine Terminal Management Self-Assessment (MTMSA) and Marine Terminal Particulars Questionnaire (MTPQ) 
•    Conduct verifications against OCIMF MTMSA completed by third-party marine terminals 
•    Conduct verifications against the OCIMF Ship to Ship Service Provider Management Self- Assessment (STSSPMSA) completed by STS Service Provider Companies 
•    Board and attend vessels 24/7/365 at company, third party terminals and STS locations 
•    Act as safety role model promoting safety awareness. 
•    Provide marine subject matter expertise and technical support to refinery and terminals 
•    Member of Marine Crisis Management and Incident Investigation Teams
•    Own and manage relationships with U. S. Coast Guard, state, local regulatory agencies, and industry peers
•    Represent Marathon Petroleum Company at marine industry forums.

 

Education and Experience  
•    Bachelor’s degree from a Maritime, Coast Guard, or Naval Academy 
•    Deck or Engineering license or equivalent military experience
•    4 years of sea time or equivalent experience e.g. Port Captain, Port Engineer, military
•    Knowledge of OCIMF, Class rules, and international regulations for the operation and construction of ships and barges 
•    Knowledge of Petroleum transportation 
•    Ability to travel on short notice and attend vessels at various locations
•    Must have valid passport and able to travel domestically and internationally
