Summary: 

Responsible for maximizing value delivery and minimizing risk to MPC across a portfolio of goods and services. Responsible for ensuring Marathon selects the most appropriate goods and/or services based on total cost of ownership (TCO). Support and execute category plans, strategic sourcing initiatives, and contract negotiations in support of leveraging our spend and creating value for Marathon in Catalyst and Precious Metals categories. Conduct spend and market intelligence analysis to identify and leverage key opportunities that deliver value, optimize supplier mix and mitigate risk to the business. Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts and Stakeholders at the Refining assets to source catalysts. Develop and monitor KPIs for measuring performance for key Suppliers. Coordinate with site buyers to ensure the team is in alignment with sourcing strategies.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Catalyst Regeneration and Spent Catalyst Reclamation Programs.
  • Manage the Precious Metals inventories and coordinate business transactions (leases, metal movements, reclaim settlements and inspection services).
  • Coordinate internal Catalyst Category Network meetings.
  • Support the development and execution of category strategies in close alignment with the Catalyst Category Manager.  
  • Support the development and implementation of regional/local sourcing strategies in close alignment with Subject Matter Experts and Stakeholders at the Refining assets.
  • In collaboration with local/regional Engineering teams, support strategic sourcing initiatives led by the Category Management team.
  • With the support of the Catalyst Category Manager, participate in the preparation and negotiation of agreements with key Suppliers, and periodically renew pricelists, terms and conditions.
  • Run benchmark studies, gather and analyze data, and make recommendations to the Category Management team in alignment with business objectives and category strategies.  
  • Perform root cause and sensitivity analysis related to supply challenges, disruptions, or other market forces.
  • On-board new Suppliers in close collaboration with the Catalyst Category Manager and coordinate regular supplier evaluations.
  • Participate in sourcing initiatives as needed in Ariba. Monitor performance in SAP for assigned categories. Occasionally place and/or expedite POs as required. Resolve commercial concerns with Supplier in accordance with the terms and conditions. Confirm delivery with Suppliers, monitor and track Supplier performance in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Seek and identify opportunities for value creation (cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue enhancement) and risk reduction within assigned categories.
  • With the support of the Catalyst Category Manager, develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key Suppliers to ensure service, commercial terms, and optimal leverage.  
  • Support the Annual Business Review process with strategic Suppliers, and coordinate meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with the Catalyst Category Manager to develop and maintain ongoing sourcing strategies, minimize supply risks, and monitor market conditions.
  • Develop and track KPIs for measuring performance for key Suppliers.  
  • Utilize Supply Chain tools, templates, and systems as prescribed by the Supply Chain Function.

 

Education & Experience

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Marketing, Engineering, Business, Science, or similar discipline required.
  • Minimum 4 years of Supply Chain, Commercial, Contract Development or Contract Management experience required. Experience in purchasing Catalysts, Precious Metals, and dispositions of spent catalyst in Refining preferred. Site Refining experience preferred.
