OVERVIEW:

This position will lead a team of four hourly technicians in the execution of Construction and Maintenance (C&M) activities at MPL facilities and on the right-of-way.  This position is based out of Marathon Pipe Line’s (MPL) Salt Lake City, UT C&M Shop.  The primary responsibilities of the C&M Supervisor are to ensure that project work is completed safely, effectively and efficiently and to guide the training and development of the technicians on the crew.  The Supervisor’s duties include scheduling and overseeing day-to-day personnel work activities, participating in project reviews, taking care of customer needs, ensuring regulatory and procedural compliance, protecting assets on the right-of-way, leading the crew during emergency response, and ensuring the crew stays productive and on-schedule. This will require this position on occasions to complete trade work, including but not limited to welding or heavy equipment operating and laboring.  C&M work is very diverse and includes excavation and repair of buried pipelines and pipefitting and other fabrication of new and replacement piping for MPL facilities.  The position also requires the commitment to a Structured Safety Process, support of various Marathon Pipe Line processes, encouraging continuous improvement and managing risk for incident prevention. *C&M Shop reporting location may be Salt Lake City, UT, or Evanston, WY. Will discuss during interview.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervises and directs the day-to-day SLC C&M Crew Technicians to safely execute the repair and maintenance of existing pipelines and facilities as well as the construction and installation of new piping systems.  Tasks include excavation, welding, bolting, pipefitting, sand blasting, coating/painting and hydrostatic testing.
  2. Implement hands on trade skills (i.e. heavy equipment operating, welding, laborer) and experience to provide crew coverage to ensure production and schedule demands are met for the business.
    1. Estimated time executing Supervisory role – 70%
    2. Estimated time executing hands on trade skills - 30%
  3. Partners with local Operations Area Management and Project Leaders to identify and complete C&M work. 
  4. Maintains practical knowledge of technological aspects of all phases of field Construction and Maintenance activities and implements approved measures to increase efficiency and meet developing needs.
  5. Partner with C&M Leadership to train and develop employees within the C&M organization.
  6. Support Environmental, Safety and Regulatory Department (ES&R) initiatives.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Years of Experience: 5+ years of C&M/Operations experience preferred, or 3-5+ years Pipeline Engineering/Construction Specialist with hands on experience welding or heavy equipment operating, or 5+ years of experience in petroleum/pipeline construction.
