POSITION SUMMARY:

The Office of the Latin America Chief Financial Officer provides strategic oversight and guidance of all financial, accounting, treasury and tax activities for the region. The Office also serves as the liaison with other Marathon Petroleum offices and external partners.

The position is responsible for verifying the accuracy of day-to-day government reporting activities of Mexico operations. A successful candidate will possess analytical ability, drive change by improving accounting processes, troubleshoot process failures, and have an ability to work cross-functionally with multiple departments. This position is highly visible within the organization to improve the Company’s processes, support business growth and ensure compliance with applicable law, rules and regulations in Mexico.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the ongoing government reporting program for Marathon in Mexico. Work with the different groups inside the organization to gather and structure the different data points required to fulfill the required reporting requirements with all applicable government agencies (SAT-SENER-CRE and others as applicable)
  • Establish a sustainable, effective and efficient process to gather all the required information and reconcile all the different sources of information required
  • Work with internal management and external service providers to develop a regulatory compliance framework and implement a process to ensure is maintained regularly
  • Supports the preparation, review, and analysis of the company’s accounting records and financial reports.
  • Monitor accounts payable transactions, ensuring proper coding and approvals for invoices.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Manage fixed assets and inventory verifications.
  • Assist with audits as needed
  • Maintain accounting policy documentation for compliance with federal regulations.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, Tax or related field
  • 5+ Years of Accounting experience
  • Experience with Government reporting (Tax-Regulatory-Accounting)
  • Experience utilizing various ERP software and other pertinent information management systems
  • Knowledge of government regulations and reporting pertaining to oil and gas in Mexico.
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Advanced experience working with MS Excel databases and data tables
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) in Spanish and English 
  • TOEFL of 600+ is required
  • Ability to manage multiple sets of unstructured data

 

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of hydrocarbon and tax regulation in Mexico and other Latin America countries
  • Knowledge of current Cost Accounting methods.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time internationally
