Summary:

This position will be the primary safety resource at the Marathon Mandan Refinery.  The Safety Professional is responsible for a wide range of safety activities including program development and interpretation, conducting safety training, auditing and corrective actions, and participation on the refinery Emergency Response Team. The candidate should be familiar with OSHA standards and OSHA recordkeeping and have some experience in safety auditing, incident investigation, and emergency response. This position reports to the refinery Safety Supervisor.

 
Key Responsibilities:

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Provides support as the point of contact person for refinery and contractors on all safety issues. 
  • Supports the refinery emergency response efforts as part of the Incident Command structure. 
  • Supports the refinery as a technical resource for safety issues including interpretation of standards and regulations, accident/incident investigations, and maintenance turnaround support. Rotational weekend duty required.
  • Develops, coordinates, and presents various safety training courses to refinery personnel.
  • Continuously assess safety risks within the area, develop and execute mitigation plans to address risks.
  • Engage in project related work by participating in the review and approval of plan development, Management of Change reviews and project safety plans.
  • Conduct Contractor and Marathon employee Field Performance Audits and meet with contractors to communicate safety expectations and help them meet the Company expectations.
  • Review work permits, correct deficiencies and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Provide safety related input in the development and review of operating procedures.
  • Serve as an advocate for first line employees to help them safely complete work.
  • Ensuring OSHA regulatory compliance.
  • Interaction with refinery and contractor personnel to ensure safety procedures and regulations are followed.

 

 

 

 
Requirements:

EDUCATION 

Degree: Bachelor's Required

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a Safety/Industrial Hygiene related position in a petroleum refinery or chemical complex.
