SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Shop Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the maintenance and construction of welding layout and fabrication. Fabricate welded and threaded piping, repair all types of piping and tubing components, repair broken castings and housing and misc. parts by welding, brazing, soldering or mechanical means.  Repair process equipment as needed. Must obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) for ongoing unescorted access into Refinery from perimeter gates.

 

                KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Fabrication and welding piping of ferrous and non‑ ferrous metals.

Fabricate threaded piping of all descriptions and repair same when needed.

Operate and maintain various power tools and machines associated with welding.

Repair steam tracing and related components.

Repair and rebuild heat exchangers and related components.

Read blueprints, design sketch and dimension projects and piping fabrications.

Assist supervisor as required in ordering material, supplies and equipment to maintain inventory.

 

REQUIREMENTS

                SMAW ‑ Shield Metal Arc Welding (stick).

                GTAW ‑ Gasshield Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG).

                GMAW ‑ Gasshield Metal Arc Welding (MIG).

                Basic welding electrical theory (AC vs DC), welding circuits, polarity, etc.

                Pipe Welding and Fitting.

                Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.

                Principals and practice of Arc Gouging.

               Candidates must be comfortable working in confined spaces and high elevations, and be physically capable of entering all Refinery towers and vessels when/where necessary.

               Requires strong interpersonal skills; with strong oral and writing skills. 

               Must possess ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

               Must be able to perform work in a team environment.

               Must possess ability to keep accurate legible documentation of work.

               Requires safe work practices to ensure safety is a fundamental part of every task.  Follow all safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping practices.

                Requires ability to respond to refinery needs outside of normally scheduled work hours and take ownership of all work performed.

                Alaska Driver's License.

                State of Alaska Welding Certification (Pipe Test, 6G Position)

                Certification as required by Marathon (Current X‑rays not more than two (2) years old).
