Provides electrical engineering to develop technical scopes and work packages supporting refinery maintenance and operations to ensure safe and reliable operation of refinery’s electrical power distribution system, equipment and motor controls, and plant instrumentation.




  1. Responds to requests by providing electrical engineering technical support to advance designs from concepts through construction.  Works independently and with multi-discipline groups as dictated by project scope.
  2. Supports Maintenance and Operations with technical support in conjunction with reliability engineering to formulate long range programs that sustain, renew, and improve the refinery Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) infrastructure.
  3. Interfaces with contract engineers to facilitate development of scopes under development by on-site and off-site engineering resources.   Ensures updated MPC and industry electrical specifications and basic practices are available to and being accurately used by all engineering contractors.
  4. Provides support through all phases of capital and expense projects. Leads technical reviews to ensure detailed electrical engineering meets design specifications, codes and engineering standards. Supports Construction Management team in Project Implementation stage for completion of construction and installation of facilities and equipment.
  5. Reviews and approves all electrical project information provided by internal sources, engineering contractors and equipment manufacturers.
  6. Leads development and implementation of refining E&I engineering technical standards.  Ensures incorporation of industry codes/standards and best practices. Coordinates final approval and distribution/publication. Develops and delivers site training to educate, inform and guide refinery stakeholders on application of engineering technical standards.



  • Minimum undergraduate degree in electrical engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years electrical engineering experience in heavy industry. 
  • Experience in refining or petrochemical industries, with project experience preferred.
  • Experience with hazardous area classification (API RP-500 Recommended Practice for Classification of Locations for Electrical Installations) and maintenance practices (National Fire Protection Association 70B Recommended Practices for Electrical Equipment Maintenance).
