Technical Services – Process Optimization Group – Process Project Engineer


This position reports to the Process Optimization Group Supervisor and supports major capital projects development and implementation.




Degree: Minimum of Bachelor's Degree Required

Major Discipline: Chemical Engineering

Experience Preferred: 5+ years’ experience as a refining process engineer with some major capital projects experience included

Proficiencies:  Process simulation (HYSYS, PetroSim, ProII, etc), strong refinery process knowledge, and a basic understanding of refinery economics and project justification




  • Lead more complex refinery-wide studies, incident investigations and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Develop new optimization strategies to maximize the value from existing refinery assets and to develop new capital projects with a vision beyond existing assets.
  • Work with other MPC organizations and outside engineering contractors to identify opportunities.
  • Effectively communicate opportunities to affected Area Teams and the RLT.
  • Develop project justification and submittals for annual capital budget.
  • Occasional travel to engineering contractor offices to support major reviews should be expected.
