Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opening for a full-time Battalion Chief Fire and Rescue position at the Garyville Refinery who will report to the Refinery Fire Chief. 


Vacancy: Battalion Chief Fire and Rescue– Paramedic    




  • Conduct multiple classroom and hands on live fire training  
  • Lead Alky Operations quarterly Level A suit training
  • First Aid, AED, and CPR training


  • Conduct SERT, Rescue, Oil Spill and any additional drills
  • Conduct “What If” Drills with Shift IC
  • Conduct building and unit evacuation drills

Emergency Response

  • Maintain Emergency Response Pre Plans (process fire, tank fire, confined space / high angle rescue)
  • Manage fire water usage permits, fire water outages, fire protection system outages and establish contingency plans
  • If Fire Chief is absent, fulfill the roll of the Fire Chief
  • Provide off shift medical care coverage under the direction of the MPC medical department within the scope of practice of a Paramedic    
  • Available for 24 hour call-out


  • Firehouse equipment inspection and maintenance
  • Fill and replace supplied breathing air and firefighting equipment
  • Manage AED program
  • Perform periodic inspection of emergency response equipment
  • Additional responsibilities to be determined as necessary


Skills Requested:

  • Fire department leadership roll experience required
  • National Registry or Louisiana Paramedic
  • Self-motivated, good time management, and mechanically inclined
  • Formal presentations of training material hands on and classroom
  • NFPA 472 – Hazardous Materials Technician
  • NFPA 1006 – Rope Rescue I
  • NFPA 1081 or 1001– Advanced Exterior and Interior or Firefighter II
  • NFPA 1401 – Instructor I
  • NIMS – 100, 200, 300, 700 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or Safety preferred
  • Willing to work 12 hour rotating shifts with overtime
  • Willing to work in hot environments which includes physical activity and heavy lifting
