Light Product Trading and Exchange is part of SD&P (Supply, Distribution and Planning). SD&P is a cross-functional organization that plans, purchases/sells, transports and accounts for crude oil, feed/blend stocks, finished gasoline and distillate products required by the refineries and marketing. SD&P members are located in Findlay, Calgary, San Antonio and Denver and at each MPC refinery.

 

Light Product Traders negotiate and arrange the purchase, sale and exchange of finished clean product and blendstock as dictated by refinery economics, market conditions and logistics to maximize economic margin consistent with safe refinery supply chain operations and other MPC values.

 

Light products include CBOB, RBOB, conventional gasoline, GTAB, ULSD, heating oil, jet fuel, gas oil, raffinate, naphtha, alkylate, reformate, light cycle oil. Logistics includes trucks, tank cars, barges, pipelines, terminals and ships. Light Product Traders handle foreign and domestic activity.

 

Responsibilities

1.  Negotiating and arranging the purchase, sale and exchange of finished light product and blendstock as dictated by refinery economics, market conditions and logistical requirements.

 

2.  Interacting with Traders, Schedulers, Refinery Feedstock Coordinators, Accountants, Engineers, Analysts, Legal and other personnel in SD&P, Refining, Marketing, Product Quality, Transport & Logistics, Business Development, IT and Finance & Commercial Services and elsewhere. These interactions will be required to stay abreast of trading, logistical and financial activity, meet regulatory requirements, prepare contracts, address information queries, initiate, recommend, develop and implement existing and new acquisition or sales strategies for achieving optimum value added from light product purchases, sales, exchanges and logistics.

 

3.  Generating and utilizing data to support external and internal performance assessments in areas of acquisition cost, price forecasts, inventory price risk management, sales netbacks, and margin contribution. Also participate on any number of interdisciplinary teams to explore and develop improved light product trading supply chain processes, tools and activity.

 

4.  Helping Light Product Schedulers and Refinery Feedstock Coordinators and others evaluate, negotiate and arrange optimal light product transportation and storage logistical asset utilization consistent with optimal light product acquisition and disposition strategy and use of constrained resources

 

5.  Representing the Company at industry functions and also keeping abreast of evolving industry conditions by training, reading, building and maintaining internal and external contacts related to clean products.

 

6.  Performing within the first year, basic backup Light Product Trader duties.

 

7.  Being available for monitoring, deciding or directing possible action 24 hours/7 days a week.

 

8.  Participate in five to ten overnight trips per year.
