Overview

The Federal Income Tax Compliance group is responsible for analyzing, compiling and filing the federal income tax returns for Marathon Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries. The fixed asset tax analyst position analyzes the fixed asset activity that flows into the federal returns for the Marathon Petroleum Corporation return and affiliates. The analyst performs multiple tasks and collaborates with internal and external organizations. This position reports to the Federal Income Tax Operations Manager.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain tax fixed assets in SAP/ SAP Hanna to properly reflect Federal tax depreciation based on the current tax laws as well as selected state depreciation.
  • Compilation of proforma returns for Marathon Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries, both 1120s and 1065s, using CorpTax compliance software.
  • Work with Tax Compliance and Tax Accounting to prepare the quarterly tax provision.
  • Support special requests for business development, audits, and legislation.
  • Researches tax issues.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative working environment.
  • Interface with Accounting Organization to obtain needed financial data and information.

 

Minimum Requirements:
Degree:
Bachelors Required
Major Discipline: Accounting or Tax
Certifications: Certified Public Accountant is preferred.
Computer Proficiencies: SAP, CorpTax and income tax provision software experience is preferred. A strong proficiency in Excel is required.
Years Experience: The candidate must demonstrate a sufficient background in tax knowledge or experience preferably with tax fixed assets to be able to perform this work. Three years tax experience preferred.
Travel Expected: Up to 50% in year 1 then falling to 10% in year 2
