SUMMARY:

 

MPC is developing a rapidly growing international fuel distribution business and requires a qualified international tax specialist to assist the Tax Director – Tax Law and the Tax Director - Income Tax Compliance and Forecasting with both the foreign income tax compliance and the US income tax effect of those taxes and operations

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Tax Director – Tax Law and Tax Director – Income Tax to provide tax planning, structuring, M&A due diligence and determine optimal tax positions for in-country activity and for the US impact of foreign activity.
  • Assist in-country personnel with planning, compliance advice and assist/manage tax audits of foreign jurisdictions.  Includes indirect and direct taxes.
  • Provide direct oversight and effectively manage corporate and other entity income tax filings, determine tax return positions, determine and pay income taxes timely, provide accounting for income tax position analysis.
  • Assist Income Tax Compliance in managing the operations and strategic use of tax compliance systems (primarily Corptax) and interaction with the general ledger and financial consolidation systems.
  • Assist with the income tax modeling process for M&A activity, tax legislation, and any reorganization activity at the federal/foreign level.
  • Coordinate and manage the planning and compliance activity for foreign operations and the US and foreign impact on the quarterly provision process.
  • Assist with Marathon’s obligation under the IRS CAP audit by providing data and detail to the Tax Director – Tax Law for interface with the IRS.

 

EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Income tax compliance experience
    • Minimum 6 years progressive experience in domestic/foreign income tax compliance and provision. Must have experience at SEC registrants or large accounting firm; Strong working knowledge of Sub-chapter C, subpart F and federal foreign income tax rules
    • US Sub-chapter K understanding preferred
  • Must be able to perform income tax law research, effectively present results and assist in determining income tax positions and effects of foreign transactions
  • Must have experience in effectively modeling
    • US tax effects of foreign activity, including FTC, FDII, GILTI
    • US Tax effects of potential foreign activity and ability to provide advice and strategy
  • Must be a committed team player and have demonstrated ability to -
    • Provide highly effective work, planning and communication to the entire tax team
    • Work effectively with Tax Accounting, Tax Compliance, financial accounting, and foreign operations managers.  
    • Be inquisitive and have a high level of energy & integrity
  • SAP or other larger corporate general ledger system experience
  • Education:  BS Accounting, or other technical degree;
    • MST / JD highly beneficial
  • CPA required for all tax compliance management, JD for Tax Law Management
