This posting is for a dynamic individual interested in a Systems Analyst role in the Commercial Analysis Group of the Light Product Supply and Logistics organization within Marathon Petroleum.  The Commercial Analysis group is responsible for supporting the successful management of over $15BN of purchases, sales and exchanges through complex reporting and analysis.  This includes market analysis, supply/demand balances, logistics optimization, deal benchmarking, scheduling, M&A activities and deal entry.  The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining database queries as well as visualizations that support this business.

 

Applicants must have the ability to communicate effectively with other internal and external IT systems analysts, application developers/implementers and other IT specialists. The candidate will also need to be able to translate complex business analysis needs into actionable IT solutions that automate calculations and generate multifaceted routine and ad hoc reporting.  The successful candidate will also have the capability and be driven to locate, combine and elevate data from the various systems to provide information, knowledge and wisdom in ways that enable better decision making and group efficiencies.

 

Skills an applicant should have include creating SQL queries, building database views and cross reference tables, creating visualizations in webtools such as Tableau and a very high proficiency with Excel including charts, graphs, pivot tables and macros.  It is also desirable that the applicant have experience with data blending using software such as Alteryx.  The candidate will be asked to use the following IT applications:  RightAngle, Navarik, Railtrac, PI, Kittyhawk, TeamView, MDR/MPR Link, COS, Refining database, pipeline applications, marine systems, pricing tools, and various commodity quality databases.

 

The successful candidate will participate on projects including potential acquisitions, work closely with management, schedulers and traders, and be involved with scheduling, refining, transportation, accounting, reporting, trading, and forecasting decisions. This position can directly influence the day to day actions of the refineries and provide a positive contribution to Marathon's bottom line.  More than anything, the applicant needs to be self-motivated, able to work in the team environment and excel in an environment where priorities change based on need.

 

Responsibilities:

  Analyze and apply information technology solutions to group business processes to increase end user productivity/deliver business value.

  • Interface with IT and the various MPC Teams to insure information technology tools optimally support performance
  • Create value-added information technology solutions; data management, and work process enhancements that improve performance
  • Monitor information technology project progress by tracking activity, resolving problems, publishing progress reports and recommending actions
  • Identify and exploit opportunities for sharing new analytical concepts and extending/leveraging other work groups’ efforts and MPC solutions
  • Assist with efficient and effective rollout of information technology solutions
  • Maintain appropriate level of reporting and meetings to communicate ideas, proposals, progress, risks and issues

 

  Business Support

  • Interact with the organization, Accounting, Center of Excellence, Business Development and others to utilize information technology expertise to efficiently and effectively answer business questions, support presentation and other report preparation.

  • Educate business unit staff to better utilize and exploit viable information technology tools for efficiency and effectiveness.
