With a good understanding of the legal entity structure, the Tax Analyst works with internal business partners to understand the business and the selling and purchasing transactional data flows to determine taxability of transactions.  This position also works with governmental agencies to file state and local tax returns for assigned tax jurisdictions and also to support the filed returns during audits by taxing authorities.  Solid critical thinking skills are requisite to ensure we pay only the taxes due with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.  The work is dynamic, fast-paced, and requires multi-tasking with a continuous improvement mindset. An ability to accept and initiate change is essential.  Internal and external technical training is provided.  

 

Responsibilities:

Register entities in new tax jurisdictions for sales/use tax, or business and occupation licenses.  Maintain current licensing status for customers and suppliers and tax exemption, resale, and Direct Pay certificates.

 

Keep abreast of tax law changes and perform tax research and interpret/document application to the company business which could have a significant impact on the company’s financial results.  Identify changes needed in tax determination and reporting systems.  

 

Review sales tax rules periodically and initiate systems updates. Review purchase invoices monthly for proper use tax determination.  Book journal entries as needed and reconcile tax liability general ledger accounts monthly.

 

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use, gross receipts tax, business and occupation tax returns in multiple jurisdictions and process payments.

 

For jurisdictional audits, compile the requested information and respond to auditor requests timely, make recommendations on the statistical audit plan, review and challenge the audit results appropriately, and recommend audit settlement with tax management.  Assist with compiling documentation to support audit protests and the tax reserve entries.

 

Network with internal business partners and review changes in their business operations for potential tax savings in pollution control, manufacturing, or renaissance zone credits, or various employment and training credits.

 

Identify and assist the implementation of process improvement ideas in the tax collection, filing and remittance procedures; Assist Tax management with special projects.

 

Degree: Bachelors Required

Major Discipline: Accounting or Finance major preferred or relevant tax experience is required.

Certifications: CPA or Tax Certification a plus 

Travel Required (%): Less than 5%
