Overview

The Refining Turnaround Group Team Lead will report directly to the Refining Turnaround Group Manager. They will supervise a Corporate Turnaround (TAR) Team working closely with the 16 refinery TAR teams providing overall TAR planning, scheduling, and execution guidance. The Refining Turnaround Group Team Lead will also be responsible for leading TAR assessments for upcoming events to determine overall readiness. This position requires strong technical expertise as well as leadership, interpersonal, communication, mentoring, and organizational skills. Geographic flexibility is required, allowing this position to be performed out of any Refining location.  Up to 60% travel is required but may fluctuate at times to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position.    

 

Responsibilities

  1. Supervises an Refining Turnaround Group Corporate TAR Team that helps manage and optimize the refinery wide 10-year TAR schedule.
  2. Ensures the Marathon Petroleum's TAR Standard/Best Practice is followed and implemented to the fullest when planning, scheduling, and executing refinery TARs.
  3. Enforces the Plan of the Plan (POP) development and holds refinery TAR teams accountable to meeting required due dates.
  4. Ensures detailed worklists for scheduled TARs are developed and frozen prior to worklist freeze dates.
  5. Ensures routine items are not approved and captured on the TAR worklist.
  6. Leads internal assessments at the refinery locations to determine overall TAR readiness for upcoming TARs.
  7. Issues recommendations to improve overall preparation efforts and readiness for upcoming TARs.
  8. Assists in the overall development of TAR contracting strategies at responsible refineries.
  9. Oversees the planning process and monitors progress to ensure planning deadlines are met. Ensures critical path scope is optimized and executed in the most efficient manner.
  10. Assists with the development of the 6-year TAR budget for TAR, MM, ER, and CAP expense classes and performs final review prior to corporate budget submittal.
  11. Reviews refinery check and control estimates for TARs.
  12. Assists with contractor job order optimization and labor/equipment rate reviews. Helps develop corporate rates and volume base discounts when applicable.    
  13. Ensures lessons learned are implemented at refinery locations to continue improving overall TAR performance.

 

Requirements

Degree: Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required

Major:  Mechanical Engineering/Construction Management

Experience:  8-10 years of turnaround/construction planning and execution experience required

Computer Skill: Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, etc.; knowledgeable with Primavera (P6), TRACK
