The Process Safety Group in the Refining organization is seeking a highly motivated candidate with strong technical and critical thinking skills.   The Process Safety Employee will primarily be focused on the human reliability/factors and continuous improvement efforts of the Refining PSM group.  Work will include:  leading the human reliability/factors program development for Refining, driving Refining PSM initiatives and special projects, creating and maintaining PSM training programs, and serving as the RC14001 Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Refining.  This role will also involve providing general support for traditional PSM areas such as auditing, training, incident investigation, change management, and other needs.



  • Lead Human Reliability/Factrs Program Development
    • Develp expertise in the realm of human reliability/factors
    • Develp programs and initiatives to build good human reliability/factors practices into routine field operations
    • Incrporate human reliability/factors learning into incident investigations
    • Champin programs and initiatives to gain support of key leadership and field operations
    • Develp and monitor key performance indicators for human reliability/factors initiatives
  • Drive PSM Cntinuous Improvement Efforts opportunities include:
    • Develpment of methods to engage the workforce in PSM programs
    • Cmplete data analysis to identify opportunities for improvement within the organization and develop programs to address
    • Identify and share best practices frm all sites
  • Prvide oversite for the RC 14001 program in Refining
    • Cordinate the multi-site audits for Refining
    • Engage with the sites t provide oversite of audit execution and finding resolution
    • Create and maintain dcumentation related to RC14001 program
  • Institutinalize PSM Department Knowledge
    • Develp standardized training programs for PSM topics for use at all refineries
    • Create and maintain PSM standards and department dcuments
    • Develp standards to support integration of California sites and respond to emerging needs
    • Develp methods to make information accessible to employees
  • Supprt/cross train in all areas of the PSM department to develop working knowledge of areas such as Auditing, Incident Investigation, PHA/LOPA, Facility Siting, MOC, etc.


Minimum requirements:

Degree: Bachelor’s Degree required.

Major discipline:  Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering or 5 years experience in a process safety related role such as Safety, Operations, Maintenance, etc.

Desired Experience:  Relevant refining related experience is required in areas such as operations, maintenance, engineering, technical services, environment, safety or PSM.  Some process safety or human reliability/factors experience is preferred.  Strong computer proficiency including Microsoft Office products, Outlook, and ability to successfully use additional refining-specific software applications such as Intelex.
