Overview

Marketing and Transportation Engineering (M&TE) provides project management and project controls services to support the continuous growth and maintenance of Marathon’s Logistics & Storage (L&S) organization. Projects typically involve petroleum product storage tanks; terminal facilities; pipeline facilities; mainlines; and maintenance of existing assets.

 

The M&TE Cost Estimating Specialist is a subject matter expert position that will develop and apply Industry best practices for estimating to projects ranging from tens of thousands to millions of dollars. The SME will report to the M&TE Office of Project Management and be based out of MPC’s Findlay, Ohio campus.

 

Responsibilities

 

The M&TE Cost Estimating Specialist will work closely with existing department estimating resources, Project Controls Specialists, and Project Engineers to successfully develop estimates for projects throughout the 5 phases of the Marathon Project Management Process (MPMP). Additional responsibilities include:

  • Prepare cost estimates for construction projects by leveraging industry norms through estimating software (Aspen In-Plant preferred) to set estimate baselines.
  • Computes and builds estimate by analyzing labor, material, indirect, and time requirements by studying project deliverables such as drawings, scope of work, schedule, quantity take-offs, and other related documents.
  • Track estimate baseline relative to bids and actual costs to support historical cost database.
  • Support estimating process development – provide input on project controls processes (work break down structure guidance, cost loading, etc.) that need to be incorporated into the estimate process to ensure alignment with department estimating resources.
  • Build metrics and key performance indicators – identify core areas to measure on individual projects and a holistic portfolio to drive estimating improvements.
  • Continuously assess estimating structure and resources for an effective and efficient estimating process within portfolio and large projects.
  • Provide technical expertise for the estimating process, execution, and continual improvement.

Minimum requirements

  • Degree: Bachelors
  • Major Discipline: Construction Management, Engineering, Accounting, Business or related discipline
  • Years of Experience: 10+ in Estimating, Project Controls, Engineering, Construction Management related fields
  • Computer Proficiencies: Familiarity with ASPEN In-Plant Cost Estimator, MS Project, and Acumen Risk is a plus
  • Travel Required (%):   5%
