Financial Protection directs the structure and purchase of MPC and MPLX’s insurance programs.  We work with business units to assess and address the company’s risk exposure from operations, acquisitions, and dispositions.  We also perform review of indemnity and insurance requirements in contracts and provide surety bonds as well as evidence of insurance, self-insurance and financial responsibility.  In the event of a major incident, we coordinate the insurance claim administration. 



Key Responsibilities


  • Manage MPC’s captive insurance companies
    • Buckeye Assurance in Vermont
    • Hardin Assurance in Bermuda
    • Ridgewood Insurance in Vermont
  • Prepare and submit the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) data call information
  • Manage the Owner Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP’s) for the refineries
  • Coordinate the department budget
  • Handle the payment requests for the department
  • Update and manage the dashboard documents for the department
  • Special projects that develop
  • Travel 10-15%



Experience and Education


  • Bachelor’s Degree Required in Finance, Accounting, Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management with related experience.

  • A minimum of five years of experience preferred




  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have strong analytical skills
  • Be able to work in a team environment, as well as collaborativley across multiple organizations and external companies
