The compensation analyst provides day-to-day support to HR consultants, management, and client groups on various Compensation matters including base pay, bonus, equity administration and other projects. Excellent technical skills and presentation skills are critical to the position as is the ability to work well in small teams and collaborate with the HR generalists who are the primary interface with the operating organizations. Must be able to prioritize work effectively. Prior experience in SAP or other compensation systems is highly desirable. Bachelor’s degree required; Master's preferred with three or more years of directly related experience.


1. Proactively identify and recommend opportunities for improvements to Marathon Petroleum’s compensation programs or their administration.

2. Work with client groups to complete and submit surveys and analyze results. Experience with long-term incentives including stock plan equity is preferred. 

3. Analyze and evaluate current and proposed job descriptions to determine proper placement within the Marathon Petroleum pay structure. Participate in a variety of salary surveys using Excel, SAP, Market Pay and other compensation databases.  Analyze results to evaluate competitiveness of current compensation programs.

4. Assist with annual bonus plan design and quarterly results preparation. Partner with Internal Audit to certify year-end results. Assist in the base pay and bonus allocation and equity administration processes.  Prepare compensation system for management use.  Prepare reports for Salary and Benefits committee approval of proposed bonus payments and base pay increase.

5. Work with organizations such as Tax, Accounting and Legal to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

6. Prepare and deliver presentations as needed on compensation-related programs to HR and organization management.
