Overview:
This position will play an integral role in the product development, sales support, production, quality control, economic optimization and customer satisfaction for Asphalt and Heavy Oil Marketing. Products supported include Performance Graded Asphalt Binders, Polymer Modified Asphalt Binders,  Emulsified Asphalts, Cutback Asphalts, and Industrial Asphalts. Position will include 10-25% travel.

 


Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will develop and maintain technical expertise, particularly a high level of expertise in asphalt and heavy oil products including their formulations, testing procedures, applications and use, modification techniques, rheological characteristics, chemistry and performance.  This position will have a heavy concentration in emulsified asphalts.


The candidate will further develop an entrepreneurial mindset, utilizing technology, market trends and internal/external business relationships to optimize asphalt and heavy oil product value throughout the production, transportation, storage and marketing processes including the development of capital projects, as well as fulfilling marketing responsibilities by participating actively in the asphalt and heavy oil product sales effort through responding to technical issues related to customer satisfaction concerning product specification and performance, product advantages and/or competition.
The successful candidate will also monitor quality by developing and implementing quality control standards and procedures to ensure the manufacture of quality asphalt and heavy oil products from the refinery or terminal source through the transportation and distribution systems.


The candidate will work with external partners, with whom the candidate establishes, builds and maintains relationships with government agencies and industry workgroups responsible for asphalt products and heavy oil standards, specifications and applications in order to facilitate mutual understanding, trust and product improvement, as well as working with internal partners, including collaboration with Marketing, Refining, TT&R (Terminal, Transport & Rail) and M&TE (Marketing & Transportation Engineering) in order to support optimal asphalt and heavy oil production, transportation, storage and sales. The technologist will work in product improvement by leading product development and research studies to ensure quality standards are achieved and economics are optimized as new products and manufacturing techniques are introduced.

 


Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree is required in the major discipline of either Engineering or Chemistry. 5+ years of relevant experience and 5+ years of asphalt emulsion experience is preferred.
