Overview

 

The Federal Income Tax Compliance group is responsible for analyzing, compiling and filing the federal income tax returns for Marathon Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries. The advanced analyst / specialist position compiles and files the consolidated federal return and compiles various pro forma federal returns that support state and local income tax returns. The position also serves as the Tax Organization’s SAP fixed asset representative. Fixed asset responsibilities include working with the income tax group to maintain SAP fixed asset records including federal and state depreciation calculations, analyzing transactions such as asset purchases, contributions, and sales, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating activities with Accounting. The analyst is expected to handle multiple tasks, and collaborate within and outside of the tax department. This position reports to the Federal Tax Supervisor.

 

Responsibilities

 

Compilation of proforma returns and elimination entries to prepare and efile the consolidated Marathon Petroleum Corporation and Subsidiary 1120 return using CorpTax. Analyzing and preparing multiple consolidated proforma returns based on state and local jurisdiction requirements. Be the Tax SAP fixed asset representative, which includes working with accounting and IT to request and test new updates needed for tax. Support fixed asset activities including asset purchases, sales, and transfers. Support special requests to support business development, audits, and legislation. Work with Tax Compliance and Tax Accounting to prepare the quarterly tax provision. This includes being responsible for compiling forecasted book income and tax adjustments including, but not limited to director and equity compensation, debt financing, operating reserves, asset retirement obligations and depreciation. Interface with Accounting Organization to obtain needed financial data and information. Assist State Income Tax Compliance and complete other special project assignments.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

Degree: Bachelors Required

Major Discipline: Accounting or Tax

 

Certifications: Certified Public Accountant is preferred.

Computer Proficiencies: SAP, CorpTax and income tax provision software experience is preferred. A strong proficiency in Excel is required.

Years Experience: The candidate must demonstrate a sufficient background in tax knowledge/experience to be able to perform this work. Four years work experience preferred.

Travel Expected: Up to 10%
