POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Accounting Analyst will be responsible for the appropriate application of financial accounting policies and procedures along with advising and distributing information to various organizations and management. Responsible for serving as a lead or mentor to other accounting personnel in the area and for coordinating projects with accounting and/or non-accounting personnel. This position will report to an Accounting Supervisor or Manager.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

 

  • Identifies, analyzes, verifies, interprets and processes financial and operating transactions and data.
  • Maintains records, accounts and ledgers pertaining to various phases of company activity and prepares related schedules, statements, and reports to analyze the results of activity.
  • Exchanges and interprets business information and promotes effective and timely flow of required operating and financial information.
  • Counsels and advises various downstream organizations on consistent and appropriate application of financial accounting policies and procedures.
  • Studies contracts and agreements to determine conformance and settlement requirements. Analyzes and interprets accounting and financial data to ensure such conformance and settlement.
  • Depending upon the level of experience and expertise, may serve as a lead and mentor for other accounting personnel.
  • Effective communication skills are required to effectively receive and distribute information to other accounting department personnel, operational department personnel, various levels of management, governmental agencies, and other MPC locations.
  • Participates in creating and recommending new policies, methods, procedures, and spreadsheets designed to improve accounting controls and efficiency.
  • Works on special projects as assigned.
  • Assists in providing training programs on accounting matters for the Controller’s organization.

 

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required
  • Minimum of two (2) years related experience
  • Certification: CPA preferred but not required

 

 

SKILLS

 

  • Proven analytical skills
  • Proficient in Excel - creating/modifying spreadsheets, data cleansing, pivot tables & formulas
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with SAP is preferred
  • Proven teamwork ability

 

 

Travel: Up to 5% for training purposes
