POSITION SUMMARY:
This position reports to the Process Controls Supervisor and supports process control activities, as a member of an operating team, within the Detroit Refinery.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with operations and process engineering to ensure safe/stable unit control by adjusting and applying tuning; managing stability, robustness, and performance of existing and new controls; and maintaining the HMI/Alarm interface and alarm database information.
  • Ensure new and existing control/alarm configurations comply with Detroit standards, best practices, and process safety and risk management principles.
  • Develop a working relationship with the operators and promptly address any questions or concerns about process control strategies, advanced control applications, and other DCS/SIS systems.
  • Enhance refinery economics by maintaining knowledge of Product Control Targets, economic drivers, and constraints limiting profitability. Maintain knowledge of future plans for changing operating conditions and equipment modifications.
  • When required, provide support to Capital and Expense projects associated with new or modified equipment and DCS obsolescence projects.
  • Act as a lead or participant in incident investigations and participate in the MOC process, including leading any controls driven changes.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call support program, with current on-call assignment rotating weekly between process control group members, to provide immediate off-hours response when needed.

 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering required
  • Experience in process controls preferred.
  • Experience in refinery or chemical plants preferred.
  • Experience with Experion DCS preferred.
