POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Senior Internal Auditor is an important member of the Internal Audit team and is responsible for performing audits of financial and operational processes, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control testing and regulatory compliance reviews for MPC and MPLX. The Internal Audit group operates under a team concept with personnel assigned to projects based on project priority and individual availability. The position reports to the Internal Audit Manager and requires the ability to perform assigned audits as both an individual contributor and work product reviewer in accordance with accepted standards.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to the Institute of Internal Auditors’ mandatory guidance, including the code of ethics
  • Exercise discretion when dealing with confidential information
  • Exhibit the highest levels of professional objectivity in gathering, evaluating and communicating information
  • Demonstrate an effective communication style, both written and spoken, that establishes credibility, a clear understanding of issues, and influences change where appropriate
  • Perform audit planning, field work, and audit reporting
  • Prepare and review automated audit work papers to ensure sound audit theory and compliance with IIA and departmental methodology
  • Develop a working knowledge of MPC and MPLX financial and operating systems to facilitate the efficient gathering of electronic data for further evaluation and analysis
  • Understand Internal Audit Standards, Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) Sections 302 and 404 compliance requirements
  • Perform consultative reviews and special projects
  • Collaborate with team members to evaluate and improve audit processes
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related business field
  • Minimum 2 years of audit experience preferred
  • CPA or CIA preferred, but not required
  • Highly motivated and team-oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products
  • Flexible to work overtime during peak periods as needed
  • Ability to travel up to 35%
