Reporting to the Director of Risk Management. Performs independently and/or works with other operational areas and analysts in preparation of financial analysis, commodity risk management, and credit risk analysis processes. Objectives include establishing and promoting open communication between the trading, marketing, operational process owners, senior management and internal audit; promoting effectiveness and efficiency in the internal control structures throughout the Company; and analyzing financial information to determine and mitigate credit risk.


• Assists Director of Risk Management in oversight of asset valuations, trading, marketing and hedging activities to ensure accurate risk reporting.
• Has working knowledge of Mark-to-Market, Value at Risk, and discounting models.
• Retrieves, compiles, and analyzes relevant data to address commodity transactional risks.
• Analyzes physical and financial commodity trading transactions, along with asset positions, to ensure that risk and performance are being properly reported and captured in underlying risk reporting system.
• Maintains models and risk reporting system in an auditable format for internal and external review to meet the requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley and operational controls.
• Prepares reports of risk and performance analysis for all levels of management, as well as front and back offices within MarkWest.
• Maintains a thorough understanding and knowledge of the Commodity Risk Policy and assists all areas in the company adherence of the policy.
• Communicates risk management processes, results and recommendations to management and employees to support the implementation of Risk Management Policies.
• Performs analysis of counterparties’ financial information and assists Director of Credit in determining appropriate action course. Prepares concise written reports of key risk factors and trends to monitor. Actively monitors and reports on trends/risk factors identified.
• Prepares daily credit risk reports, proactively addressing over line issues with counterparties and Marketing Department in an effective manner.
• Incorporates current events, news, and trends affecting counterparties and overall industry into credit analysis.
• Reviews company contracts for potential credit risks; identifies risks and provides mitigation recommendations to process owners.
• Negotiates and monitors collateral when necessary.
• Participates actively in credit discussions.
• Prepares analytical reports and summaries independently.
• Assists in maintaining systems of electronic files and handling of routine requests.




Candidate Profile: Individual’s work/education history clearly demonstrates a high level of self-motivation, persistence, and ability to accurately pick out relevant trends from complex data. Individual has already established a strong and effective personal style of organization, can demonstrate a history of increasingly developed problem-solving abilities, and has a desire to work in the energy risk field.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in finance, economics, accounting, or related field. One to two years of relevant industry experience preferred.

Communication Skills: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong abilities to resolve issues effectively, clearly convey decisions and thinking, and distill complex information into succinct summary form are required.

Computer Skills: Intermediate computer skills to include knowledge of Excel, MS Word. Analytical skills using spreadsheets and /or database software are required. Applicants will be asked to demonstrate Excel abilities during interview process.
