The Manager is an integral member of the General Accounting team and is responsible for leading and developing a team of five to six professional accountants. The position is responsible for ensuring the internal financial statements and supporting schedules are completed timely, accurately and in accordance with the governing accounting regulations. The position is also responsible for ensuring the monthly close process occurs timely, accurately and maintaining the Oracle reporting hierarchy.

• Oversee all functions associated with production and timely issuance of internal financial package including consolidations, eliminations, and preparation and review of financial package.
• Ensure management reports are completed timely and accurately for presentation and review by senior management and department heads.
• Responsible for the consolidation of multiple legal entities and manage the accounting close cycle within established guidelines.
• Responsible for coordinating annual, quarterly and interim audit schedules.
• Responsible for yearly, quarterly, and monthly flux analysis and reporting.
• Ensures transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed and supported in accordance with company policies, generally accepted accounting principles and SOX controls.
• Oversee the production and issuance of annual Texas Railroad Commission regulatory filings.
• Responsible for maintaining appropriate controls, SOX Processes, and policies for respective areas of responsibility.
• Ensure internal financial statements are prepared accurately and in accordance with GAAP.
• Proactively monitor effectiveness of controls and continually look for enhancements.
• Read, interpret and develop a thorough understanding of various complex agreements such as Intercompany, Cash Management, Omnibus and Joint Venture.
• Review designated accounting policies, standards, and procedures, at a minimum, annually to assure they appropriately reflect any changes in the GAAP guidance and the current control environment.
• Review and approve assigned monthly journal entries and review all assigned monthly account reconciliations.
• Provide expertise and superior customer service to others in the MarkWest community for assigned area of responsibility.
• Understands the full-range of the general ledger accounting system (e.g. Oracle General Ledger) functionality. Has general knowledge of sub ledger systems (e.g. Oracle accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed assets).
• Applies experience, knowledge, analytical skills, and leadership skills to solve problems, establish efficient accounting processes/procedures and controls, and work prioritization.
• Works with other departments to ensure effective communication, consistency, and use of best practices.
• Generates ideas and implements process and departmental improvements.
• Sets priorities and goals for group and individual staff members, performs staff member performance evaluations, and provides development, training and coaching of staff members.
• Actively participates in the development and coaching of staff members to provide appropriate advancement opportunities.
• Other duties as assigned by the management team.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
• Advanced degree or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred.
• Minimum of five years of professional accounting experience.
• Previous managerial experience preferred.
• Oil and gas industry experience preferred.
• Oracle or other large Enterprise Resource Planning experience required.
• Experience with Hyperion EssBase and Hyperion Financial Management preferred.
• Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and the ability to apply GAAP to new and existing transactions.
• Strong understanding of internal controls and ability to select and execute appropriate alternative internal controls when conditions warrant.
• Ability to work under high pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytic and problem solving skills.
• Proficient in use of MS Office applications.
• Proven ability to manage people with diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to effectively communicate at all levels and disciplines of the organization.
• Must adhere to the highest standards of ethical behavior when carrying out the job responsibilities and supervising others.
• Flexibility to work overtime during peak periods.
• Strong leadership and management skills.

Physical Demands:
Requires sitting throughout most of the day, interspersed with short trips throughout the office as needed to file, print, etc.
