POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Accounting Supervisor will be responsible for supervising a staff of professional accountants to ensure transactions as well as management reports are recorded and analyzed in a timely, accurate manner and in accordance with company policies.  Responsibilities include all aspects of the monthly accounting close within assigned areas and monthly management reporting for operating income, income from operations, volumes, and EBITDA segment and area reporting, both GAAP and Non-GAAP. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Accountable for all aspects of the monthly accounting and closing cycle.
  • Provides extensive assistance and direction to staff members in carrying out their job responsibilities and group goals. 
  • Ensures transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed and supported in accordance with company policies and SOX controls.
  • Review and approve monthly estimates, monthly account reconciliations, AIC,  journal entries, and monthly variance results. 
  • Analyzes monthly, quarterly and yearly gross margin and operating expenses, key operating statistics, price/volume variances and operating results on a monthly basis.
  • Responsible for monthly management reporting actual to budget for operating income and volume reporting for respective areas.
  • Responsible for monthly segment reporting for Income from Operations, EBITDA, variances, and volumes.
  • Responsible for monthly balance sheet and income statement flux analysis.
  • Updates and ensures accuracy of trend reports as well as actual-to-prior period,  actual-to-plan, and actual-to-forecast variances.
  • Answers and resolves internal and external customer inquiries, including audit inquiries from external auditors, Internal Auditing, government agencies, and producer auditors. 
  • Understands the full range of the applicable operational accounting system (e.g. Quorum Suite and/or Right Angle) functionality and also has a substantial understanding of the midstream business.
  • Ensures reporting system (Essbase) data is loaded accurately and provides support for system generated report design and development.
  • Applies experience, knowledge, analytical skills, and leadership skills to solve issues, establish efficient accounting processes/procedures and controls, and work prioritization. 
  • Works with departments to ensure effective communication, consistency, and use of best practices.
  • Actively participates in the development and coaching of staff members to provide appropriate advancement opportunities.
  • Position typically has 1-3 direct reports.    

 

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • Five plus years of accounting experience with one to two years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Three to five years of oil and gas industry experience preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of the Midstream operations accounting area. 
  • Quorum/TIPS and/or Right-Angle experience preferred.
  • Hyperion Essbase system experience preferred.

  • Advanced in use of Excel and Word and have the aptitude to effectively learn company-specific accounting systems.

  • Flexible to work extra hours during peak periods in order to meet monthly deadlines.
