SUMMARY: Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position is for a person fully qualified in the Industrial Process Controls field. Provides process control solutions and support to Javelina plant Operations and Technical teams. Implements and sustains best practices for value-driven loop tuning, and complex PID loops to reduce variation and achieve profitability. Competent and capable of safely performing and managing work involving controls software and hardware. Responsible for testing of SIS systems per PSM requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Functions as project lead for PLC and DCS upgrade projects.
• Builds/modifies Honeywell Experion DCS graphics as-needed.
• Assists with design of control strategies through achieving and sustaining improvements loop tuning and complex PID (proportional integral derivative) loops.
• Utilizes knowledge of DCS (distributed control system), PLCs (programmable logic controllers), SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition), instruments, analyzer, process networks in process control configuration and implementation. Ensures adherence to corporate standards, guidelines and performance metrics to define, implement and promote optimal utilization and benefits of process control engineering solutions.
• Provides support for all process control applications, maintenance, installation, migration, and control loop management. Monitors control system performance and recommends modifications to improve reliability.
• Trains operators in basic process control function and troubleshooting.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May oversee projects, training, or supervise contractors.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform or learn to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate, by experience, knowledge of plant equipment and have demonstrated a history of increased responsibility.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Electrical Engineering degree or a degree from a technical school in Process Controls with 2 years field experience. Otherwise five years experience, preferably with Honeywell Experion/TDC 3000 DCS systems, and PLC programming with preference given for SIS system experience.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current valid driver's license required

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Basic computer skills to include knowledge of Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint. Experience with CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System) a plus.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to keep records, read and understand manufacturer’s equipment manuals and drawings, P&ID’s (Process and Instrumentation Drawings), loop drawings, etc.
Ability to work well with all plant personnel and managers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to outside weather conditions, which could range from cold and snow to hot, humid conditions. Walking on uneven terrain is often required during field work. High noise areas will be encountered.
