Primary Responsibilities:


The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure all electrical equipment is installed, maintained, and operated such that they perform the function they were designed to perform with the highest degree of reliability achievable. This position supports all Operating Area Teams on any issues related to electrical equipment and corroborates with all other departments on a daily basis. When equipment performs poorly, this engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing corrective measures including long-term solutions. This activity will include developing Capital and Expense Budget items for consideration by Management. Recommendations need to be based on accurate data prioritized by the Meridium software and reliability studies. The electrical reliability engineer reports to the Maintenance Reliability Supervisor.


Mechanical Integrity Program Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure a specific list of MI covered equipment is maintained for Electrical Equipment and the method for keeping the list accurate is effective. Buildings in classified areas should be identified and included in the MI Program.
  2. Identify Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEPs) through participation in Marathon's EAG and maintain a current listing of RAGAGEPs for electrical equipment.
  3. Review closed Orders and make recommendations to adjust the PM frequencies for electrical equipment in the MI Program to the Craft Supervisor based on break down maintenance data.
  4. Maintain and update Equipment Acceptance Checklists and Equipment Commissioning Checklists for electrical equipment.
  5. Work with the Craft Supervisor, Maintenance Foreman, Electricians, and Marathon's Electrical Advisory Group to identify RAGAGEPs and to develop and maintain written procedures for electrical equipment.


Other Responsibilities:


The Electrical Reliability Engineer is responsible for setting up spare parts for new and existing equipment by following the MPC Basic Practice and achieving agreement with the Electrical Supervisor. This person will also lead inventory reviews to eliminate inventory because of obsolescence or acceptable risks. Another responsibility is to assist Project Managers with their electrical equipment needs for project development. This will include developing scope, cost, schedule, and identifying areas of risk specific to the electrical portions of a project.




  1. Utilize reliability tools such as failure calculations, failure evaluations, cost analysis, and others to evaluate and prioritize work load and communications.
  2. Continue development of the electrical equipment Mechanical Integrity, PMs, PdMs, and provide regular training for these programs to Operations and Maintenance personnel.
  3. Conduct audits to measure the effectiveness of the various reliability related activities such as PMs, PdMs, training, etc. and report findings to Management.
  4. Serve as the resident expert for Incident Investigations and PHA re-validations when electrical equipment is involved.
  5. Assist Operations and Maintenance in developing an effective training program for all aspects of electrical equipment. Be an active participant in developmental training and toolbox safety meetings.
  6. Conduct life cycle cost analysis and report findings to Area Teams and Project Managers as needed for project justifications.
  7. Review KPI reports and utilize this information for prioritizing activities to support continuous improvement.
  8. Provide technical and supervisory support for turnaround and shutdown activities relative to electrical equipment.
  9. Maintain documentation of substation PM.
