The Marathon Petroleum Company Los Angeles Refining Division is seeking a Project Construction Field Engineer.

Overview:  This position is responsible for supporting the MPC project construction organization providing a point of contact between construction supervision and engineering. This role will coordinate between MPC construction leads, MPC engineering, and construction contractors. We are seeking a motivated, team oriented individual to monitor construction work quality and help eliminate obstacles that are impeding construction work progress. Projects range in size between 1,000 – 30,000 multi-craft construction manhours within existing refinery operating units. The position requires the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently within the project implementation phase.

 Responsibilities:

  • Interact daily with MPC construction coordinators, planners, schedulers, and construction contractors to progress project construction activities.
  • Provide field engineering support serving as a liaison between construction and project engineers for refinery capital and expense projects.
  • Provide Quality Assurance of contractor Primavera P6 plans prior to incorporating in a master construction schedule.
  • Facilitate constructability reviews between multi-disciplinary construction teams to optimize schedules and resources.
  • Participate in project model reviews providing constructability input to engineering design.
  • Coordinate with engineering on construction work package splits between TAR and Non-TAR Construction.
  • Coordinate with multiple engineering contractors and MPC engineering to resolve RFI’s and field issues during the project construction phase.
  • Work with operations to develop and incorporate equipment outage schedules as it pertains to project scope.
  • Review construction work packages, coordinate field walks with contract planners to validate man hour estimates align with work scope and identify cost savings.
  • Coordinate work package turnover strategy and support system turnover process.
  • Communicate changes to MPC Specifications and Standards related to construction.
  • Manage portfolio of projects in the construction implementation phase.
  • Evaluate engineering estimates compared to construction control estimates.
  • Coordinate with outside specialty contractors to review job scope, bid proposals and assist in technical clarifications.
  • Support turnarounds with large project construction scope
  • Prepare and review critical lift plans with contractors and management.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering
  • Mechanical and civil aptitude
  • Strong communication skills
