Summary:

Provides regional safety support and consultation to Andeavor Logistics operations based in the Permian Basin.  Provides safety support to all aspects of the Logistics business including pipelines Operations & Maintenance and Engineering & Capital Projects in New Mexico and West Texas. This position supports logistics line management by implementing procedures and work processes that comply with government requirements, Andeavor Standards, and industry best practices. This position is responsible for implementing programs that reduce injuries and mitigates safety risk.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides direction and regional safety support and is accountable to ensure safety programs and processes drive continuous improvement of safety performance.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and Andeavor safety requirements and is accountable to provide quality guidance and support on all Health and Safety regulatory compliance matters.
  • Contributes to regional and company health and safety strategy. Understands what tasks are occurring within the region and is routinely present in the field monitoring and auditing critical safety procedures (hot work, confined space, excavation, energy control, etc.) and providing immediate feedback to employees and management.
  • Implements safety and health programs for the region and designs regional safety strategies focused on incident prevention and risk reduction.
  • Develops, conducts and measures safety training and education. Collaborates with leadership and team members to ensure adequate training levels are achieved and are compliant with applicable regulations and company requirements. Develops and shares best practices across the region and company.
  • Analyzes and ensures proper emergency response preparedness for the region.
  • Provides leadership and guidance on all health programs for the region and ensures that these programs are properly overseen and managed (i.e., industrial hygiene, medical monitoring, physicals, and injury case management).

 

  • Serves as one of the principal incident investigators and implements the incident management program for the region. Works with regulators and represents Andeavor during agency interactions and inspections.

 

Requirements: 

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, science, engineering or other related discipline recommended.  

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum seven years’ experience in occupational health and safety.  

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Proficient in writing and maintaining regulatory programs, standards, and procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze regulations and identify and succinctly communicate applicable requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate in interactions with regulatory agencies, Engineering and Operations staff, and Management
  • Project management skills / ability to identify, assign, track, and drive action items through completion

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • May require working outside of normal business hours including weekends and/or holidays
  • 50 % or more regional travel in a company vehicle with some overnight stays
  • Conditions include climbing ladders, crawling into confined spaces, climbing on under and over piping and walking on uneven ground, working in high places, working in elevated and reduced temperature environments and working near equipment that may have hydrocarbon odors.

 

  • May be required to be fit tested for a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus.
